AI Skills and Literacy Training: Home 2 Taiwan Opens Its IT Skills Series for OFWs
Home 2 Taiwan holds its first AI Skills and Literacy Training for Overseas Filipino Workers in Tainan, the foundation course of a series of IT programs for our kababayan in Taiwan.

On a Saturday morning at Immaculate Conception Church (ICC) in Tainan, Filipino workers put their phones on the table and asked their questions out loud. Home 2 Taiwan, in collaboration with UP Open University, holds its first AI Skills and Literacy Training, run as a project of the Migrant Workers Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (MWO OWWA) Kaohsiung under its IT program, with the support of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
This is a foundation course by design. Before anyone types a single prompt, participants learn what AI can and cannot do, why it can be confidently wrong, and what they should never give it: passports, ARC numbers, bank details, or other people’s personal information. With those rules in place, they move on to writing clear prompts, checking AI answers against a calculator, translating messages to their supervisors and checking them by translating back, and spotting scams that now use AI to fake voices and faces.
We thank MWO OWWA Kaohsiung for making this training part of its IT program and opening the day with us, and DMW and MECO for standing behind a program built for Filipino workers in Taiwan. We give special thanks to Immaculate Conception Church Tainan for opening its doors to our community once again.
An academic observer joins the session to see how Home 2 Taiwan prepares migrant workers, not only for their work in Taiwan but for their eventual reintegration back home. Her interest is a reminder that what we build in a church hall in Tainan matters beyond it.
This training is the first of several. The next courses in the series will cover knowledge management and website building, each building on the principles set on Saturday: use AI clearly, check it always, and protect your information.
This training is also a lesson in Transnational Human Capital Development (THCD). Taiwan’s population is aging, and its need for skilled workers in elder care, rehabilitation, and long-term care keeps growing. Filipino workers bring skill, care, and cultural fit to that need, and digital skills like AI literacy make them stronger partners, not just a labor supply. Home 2 Taiwan’s role is to build people through training, upskilling, and credentials, so that every OFW returns home with more than they came with. Every program we run next will follow this same THCD lens.
